Eight days that run the length of Uganda's adventure country: a full day on the Nile's white water at Jinja, then north to walk with white rhinos at Ziwa and watch the river force itself through Murchison Falls, west along the Albertine Rift to Queen Elizabeth National Park, and south through Ishasha's fig trees to the gorillas of Bwindi. The last afternoon is spent doing nothing much on Lake Bunyonyi.
It suits travellers who want the country's set pieces in one trip and do not mind long days in the vehicle between them. Chimpanzees at Kalinzu, tree-climbing lions at Ishasha and a Nile boat cruise fill the days in between.

Grade-Five Rapids on the Victoria Nile
Jinja sits where Lake Victoria empties into the Nile. Half a day on the water — through the Bujagali stretches and the churning throat of Itanda — is as physical as this trip gets, and the rush stays with you for the rest of the week.
White Rhino Tracking at Ziwa
Uganda's only wild white rhinos roam Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on foot patrol with armed rangers. You walk close enough to hear the grass compress underfoot as a two-tonne animal turns to assess you, then returns to grazing.
Murchison Falls — the Nile Forced Through Rock
The entire Nile squeezes through a seven-metre cleft and drops forty-three metres into a roiling cauldron below. A morning game drive along the northern bank, then a boat cruise to the base of the falls, gives you the landscape from every angle.
Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
Kibale holds one of Africa's densest populations of eastern chimpanzees. At dawn your guide — tracker Moses Byaruhanga — reads knuckle prints and fresh fig pulp on the trail. When the chimps are found, the noise and energy overhead is almost overwhelming.
Queen Elizabeth's Kazinga Channel
A two-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel passes hippos at arm's reach, African fish eagles scanning from dead acacia, and buffalo wading belly-deep in the shallows. The channel connects lakes George and Edward and concentrates wildlife at the water's edge all afternoon.
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
The final morning in Bwindi is the one guests talk about for years. You push through tangled undergrowth — sometimes on hands and knees — until a ranger signals a halt and the Rushegura family appears between the trees, entirely at ease, entirely themselves.
Crater Lakes Region at Dusk
Between Kibale and Queen Elizabeth, the road winds past a chain of explosion craters filled with tea-dark water. Pulling over as the sun drops behind the Rwenzori and turning the lakes copper is one of those unscheduled moments no itinerary can fully plan for.

Itinerary
Your day-by-day journey
Day 1
Arrive in Entebbe, drive to Jinja and the Source of the Nile
Your guide meets you at Entebbe International Airport. After a stop for refreshments you drive through Kampala to Jinja, where Lake Victoria empties into the Nile. At the Source of the Nile, watch crocodiles, monitor lizards and waterbirds along the banks, then settle in for the night before tomorrow's rafting.

Day 2
White-water rafting on the Nile
An early breakfast, then a full day of guided white-water rafting on the Nile with a professional safety team on the water throughout. The rapids here are among the best-known in the world; expect to be soaked, exhilarated and tired. Afterwards you transfer to Kampala for the night.

Day 3
Rhino tracking at Ziwa, then Murchison Falls
North after breakfast to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where wild rhinos can be tracked on foot. A ranger leads you to them before lunch. You continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda's largest and oldest conservation area, arriving in the evening.

Day 4
Game drive, Nile cruise and the top of the falls
A morning game drive across the park's northern sector: giraffe, elephant, lion, Uganda kob, hartebeest and buffalo, with birds everywhere. After lunch at the lodge you board a boat for the cruise up the Victoria Nile past hippos, crocodiles and elephants drinking at the bank. You disembark below the falls and walk the trail to the top, where the Nile squeezes through an eight-metre gorge and drops forty-three metres.

Day 5
South along the Rift to Queen Elizabeth
A travelling day south through western Uganda via Hoima and Fort Portal, along the Albertine Rift: hills, tea plantations and small farming villages, with the Rwenzori Mountains on the horizon in clear weather. You reach Queen Elizabeth National Park in the evening.

Day 6
Chimpanzees at Kalinzu, lions at Ishasha, on to Bwindi
Chimpanzee tracking in Kalinzu Forest Reserve with the reserve's guides, following a habituated community through the forest. Then on to Bwindi by way of the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth, known for its tree-climbing lions; elephant, buffalo, hyena and antelope are also seen on this road.

Day 7
Gorilla trekking, then Lake Bunyonyi
An early breakfast and a briefing at the park headquarters, then the trek. Bwindi holds nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas; finding a family can take two to six hours, and you spend one hour with them once you do. After lunch you drive to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa's deepest lakes, for a quiet evening. A visit to the lakeside communities and their craft stalls can be arranged.

Day 8
Return to Entebbe or Kigali
After breakfast you drive to Entebbe, or on to Kigali if your onward flight leaves from Rwanda, with lunch on the way in Mbarara or Masaka. Drop-off is at Entebbe International Airport or Kigali International Airport.

15 years for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking (Uganda Wildlife Authority regulation)
Safari Duffel
Soft-sided bags recommended; maximum 15 kg per person for safari vehicle storage. A daypack is essential for trekking days.

Alternate Sightseeing
If gorilla trekking is postponed by the park authority due to gorilla health protocols, we arrange a second-day permit at no additional cost or offer a gorilla habituation experience as an alternative subject to availability.
