Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park
Spend a permitted hour with a habituated gorilla group on the Virunga slopes. At this elevation the air is cool and still, and a silverback may settle close enough that you fill the frame without a telephoto.
Golden monkey session at dawn
Bamboo forest at first light is alive with colour. A troop of golden monkeys moves fast and low, their orange-and-black coats catching whatever sun filters through the canopy — challenging, rewarding photography.
Akagera savanna game drives
Eastern Rwanda's only savanna park holds elephant, buffalo, lion, and the world's most recently reintroduced black rhinoceros population. Late-afternoon light over Lake Ihema turns the reed beds copper.

Day 1
Arrival in Kigali – Welcome to Rwanda
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your professional guide from Arrive Africa Safaris and transferred to your hotel in Kigali. Take time to relax after your journey and prepare your photography equipment for the exciting adventure ahead.
Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short city tour, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, one of Rwanda's most important historical sites. You can also explore local art galleries, cultural centers, or craft markets, offering excellent opportunities for cultural and street photography.

Day 2
Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Wildlife Photography Game Drive
After breakfast, depart Kigali and drive to Akagera National Park, Rwanda's only savannah national park and one of East Africa's most remarkable conservation success stories. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch before setting out on your first photographic game drive through the park's diverse habitats of open plains, wetlands, lakes, acacia woodland, and rolling hills.
Keep your camera ready as you search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, and numerous bird species. The afternoon light provides beautiful conditions for wildlife photography, allowing you to capture animals against the stunning backdrop of Rwanda's scenic landscapes. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Full-Day Wildlife Photography Safari in Akagera National Park
Today is dedicated to exploring Akagera National Park and maximizing your wildlife photography opportunities. Begin with an early morning game drive when wildlife is most active and the soft golden light creates ideal conditions for photography. Search for the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and black rhinoceroses—as well as giraffes, zebras, hyenas, impalas, topis, waterbucks, and many other species.
Akagera is also a paradise for bird photographers, with more than 500 bird species, including African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, bee-eaters, hornbills, and the rare shoebill stork (occasionally seen in the wetlands). After lunch, continue with another game drive, allowing you to photograph wildlife in different lighting conditions while exploring the park's beautiful ecosystems. Your experienced safari guide will position the vehicle for the best viewing angles and photography opportunities while sharing fascinating insights into the park's wildlife and conservation efforts. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, depart Akagera National Park and travel across Rwanda's spectacular countryside to Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. The scenic drive offers countless opportunities to photograph Rwanda's rolling hills, tea plantations, terraced farms, volcanic landscapes, and picturesque rural villages.
Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Virunga Mountains. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing, organizing your camera equipment, and preparing for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following morning.

Day 5
Gorilla Trekking and Wildlife Photography – Departure
Rise early for breakfast before transferring to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by experienced park rangers. Accompanied by skilled guides and trackers, begin your trek through the lush rainforest in search of one of the park's habituated mountain gorilla families. Depending on the gorillas' location, the trek may take between 2 and 6 hours.
Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing and photographing these magnificent primates in their natural habitat. Capture intimate moments as they feed, groom one another, care for their young, and interact peacefully within their family group. The misty rainforest, dramatic volcanic scenery, and close proximity to the gorillas create extraordinary photography opportunities unlike anywhere else in the world. After your gorilla trekking adventure, return to the lodge for lunch before checking out.
