Kasubi Tombs — The Breath of Buganda
Stand inside the vast thatched rotunda where four Buganda kabakas rest and the smell of old raffia and earth settles around you. A royal attendant explains the relics — ivory, spears, bark-cloth screens — that still hold political weight today.
Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest
Kibale holds one of the densest chimpanzee populations on the continent. You follow researchers into the fig-heavy canopy at first light, listening for the drumming of feet on buttress roots before you see a single face.
Bark-Cloth Workshop, Mabira Forest Edge
Bark cloth — beaten from the inner bark of the mutuba fig tree — is one of Uganda's oldest UNESCO-recognised crafts. A third-generation maker demonstrates the full process, and you try your hand at the wooden mallet.
Crater Lakes Walk, Fort Portal
The Toro region's explosion craters hold lakes in shades of green and blue-grey depending on algae and depth. A two-hour walk connects Lake Nkuruba and Lake Nyinambuga, with a tea stop at a community viewpoint.
Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
The channel linking Lakes Edward and George supports one of Africa's highest concentrations of hippos per kilometre. African fish eagles call from the papyrus, and Marabou storks stand like grey sentinels on the bank.
Batwa Cultural Encounter, Bwindi Highlands
The Batwa, the forest's original inhabitants, share songs, fire-making, and forest plant knowledge through a programme that channels proceeds directly to community education. It is not a performance — it is a conversation.
Ndere Cultural Centre, Kampala
The Ndere Troupe performs music and dance traditions of over fifteen Ugandan ethnic groups — Acholi, Kigezi, Ganda, Nyoro — in a two-hour show where the drums physically move the air in the theatre.

Enjoy a scenic boat ride to the point where the mighty Nile River begins its 6,650-kilometre journey to the Mediterranean Sea. Later, explore Jinja's vibrant craft markets and historic Indian quarter, reflecting the town's multicultural heritage.

If Kasubi Tombs is temporarily closed for conservation works, we substitute a visit to the Buganda Parliament (Lukiiko) and the Wamala Tombs. Cultural content is never dropped — only rerouted.
